What’s Happening
A UNIQUE TAKE ON MUSIC
Synopsis:
We have had the pleasure of performing locally in Caerphilly with gigs at the Piccadilly Pub, The Green Lady, Cwrt Rawlin, The Railway, as well as across venues in South Wales such as The Dolls House, The Hanbury, The Moggridge, Fuel, Jacs, etc. and The Horseshoe in South West England. We have raised funds for charities: Asthma UK and Wales Ape & Monkey Sanctuary. It brings us great joy to help good causes through the medium of music and we are appreciative of donations made. We have achieved organising ticketed charity events, such as the Rock Charity Event 30th April 2022, Caerphilly Workmen's Hall, with special guests, Celts, and at Fuel Rock Club, 7th April 2023 with Baby Blue UK. We participate in 'Party in The Picc' charity ticketed event annually, have appeared at Merthyr's Lollapalooza festival on New Year's Day 2023, The Little Cheese, Caerphilly, 2023, and Blackwood Cider Festival 2024.
We sponsor Wolfdogs, Rubea & Storm, at the Wales Ape & Monkey Sanctuary. The Sanctuary welcomes visitors, so go check them out at: https://www.ape-monkey-rescue.org.uk/ All monies from our merch sales go to the Sanctuary and we accept voluntary donations on their behalf at gigs, which is then paid directly to them.

NIA JOHN
Lead Vocalist
Nia John grew up with a brother who was a drummer in a band and has been singing since she was 7 years old. She attended Sherman Theatre Summer School, various Theatre groups and studied Theatre Studies as part of a Degree course at University. She sang for Music Wales in her 20's and mostly performed Meat Loaf and Bonnie Tyler songs across S-Wales. She went as far Grade 6 in singing, then found her most recent high profile Vocal Coach, Tanya Harrison, whom she describes as opening a whole new World of professional learning.
Nia has released 7 albums/EPs and multiple singles since 2012 with producer Al Steele, Shabbey Road Studios. She had over 1 million listeners to her cover of Total Eclipse, on Worldwide radio and gained her official artist status on You Tube, 2021. She was talent-scouted for her own World live stream by SessionsLive, regularly took part in online festivals and was a Rising Idol Finalist 2022. Now Nia has her own stream at artist-led Live Streamer Cafe. Nia has also performed with the BBC Welsh Orchestra, sang at BBC Proms in London with Rock Choir, and recorded at Abbey Road Studios. Nia's cover of Holding Out For A Hero features on the trailer soundtrack of Daniele Spadoni's Retro Game remake of Rainbow Island.
She has featured in many Music Magazines across the UK and Europe. Nia also writes original music and has released 12 tracks so far. She has over 17 million song streams on major music platforms. She has been interviewed by UK radio stations and her songs are played across the World. Her original songs with Al Steele, have featured as Record of the Week on Newport City Radio Station 2024-2025. Nia's latest Bonnie Tyler cover, Faster Than the Speed of Night, reached No' 41 in the Euro Indie Music Charts.
Wolf Storm is Nia's 6th band, having learnt over the years from many musicians whom she has held in high esteem. She enjoys music and being able to give something back by supporting the Wolfdogs at Wales Ape and Monkey Sanctuary. Lots more to come from this lady and the fantastic musicians in the band. Overall Impression ‘Holding Out For a Hero’:
With its powerhouse of a lead vocal performance, coupled with a sense of sheer unbridled energy, Nia John delivers a fantastic cover of the Bonnie Tyler 80's anthem, "Holding Out For a Hero" with great conviction and an undoubtedly deep passion for the source material. This is by no means an easy song to cover, yet Nia John/Wolf Storm have managed to capture the very same intensity and spirit of the original with the utmost attention to detail, matching the original's solid arrangement, diversity in sounds, and performances with equal aplomb. This will certainly appeal to fans of 80's rock and pop, especially those who love female-fronted rock groups.
Overall Impression ‘Don’t Let Go’:
With its excellent performances, free-spirited lyrics, and undeniably uplifting nature, "Don't Let Go" is a tenderly written piece that feels both grand and assured in its execution. Nia's commanding vocal presence is thoroughly absorbing and bears all the traits required to make a powerful rock ballad, and of course, she is backed by an extremely strong group of performers that create a melodically and rhythmically engaging musical backdrop for Nia's vocals to glide over. Fans of strong female vocals and the timeless sound of the power ballad will have a great time with "Don't Let Go".
